New interviews:

In today’s Sunday Magazine I chat with Angela Mollard about love, life, stereotypes, writing Assassin, losing my mother when I was young, and why I quit modelling in my twenties and became brand ambassador for Jacqui E this year. (I model their new collection in the piece.)

An excerpt: “My motto is ‘Life is too short to live the same day twice,'” she says. “I’m always seeking out new experiences. Women, in particular, cop a lot of negative stereotypes – if they’re career professionals, they’re seen to have no real life; if they’re mothers, they’ve become soft. But we’re far more nuanced and layered.”

“I know how fortunate I am, and mistakes in the past have made me stronger.”

Earlier this month I chatted with SMH’s Karen Hardy about my new novel Assassin, and we got on to the subject of Sydney broadcaster Alan Jones and his recent remark that women in power are ‘destroying the joint’.

”We should call out inappropriate comments, like these ones, when they’re made; we should encourage women to follow their dreams, whatever they might be; encourage more women to take part in public life, if they’re able. Obviously it’s not the life everyone would choose but there is real value in encouraging women to not only know they’re able to take part in public life in a significant way but in showing it as something aspirational… #destroyingthejoint is now a euphemism for all kinds of women’s contributions. I’m sure that’s what Alan Jones meant to say…that women make a valuable contribution to society.”
