The angry feminist, vacuous model, bitchy boss, desperate housewife, smug mother, home birth zealot, evil stepmother and gold digger all have one thing in common – they are stereotypes. Let’s cast aside the labels that divide us. We are women, we are people and we don’t belong in boxes.

On Nov 1st I will be speaking at Inside & Out, a Women Say Something event, to talk about stereotypes and image. Other panellists include Beccy Cole, Stella Delight, Rachael Oakes-Ash, Naomi Palmer, Monique Schafter and Leah Weber.

What stereotypes have you been branded with? What does ‘image’ mean to you?

im·age [im-ij] noun

1. a physical likeness or representation of a person, animal, or thing, photographed, painted, sculptured, or otherwise made visible.
2. a mental representation; idea; conception.
3. form; appearance; semblance

Manus Island – An insider’s report

In 2014 I was contacted by one of my long-standing crime research contacts. He explained that he is currently stationed at Manus Island, and that the information being made public about the violence that took place there was not correct. I came forward with this information at his request, once I was able to fully verify his account.
